Ideas for Activities
Are you curious?

...about what it would be like to be made of something else besides person-material?

Even the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich would taste like dust if your tongue was made of stone.

What else could you imagine being turned into besides stone (for a story, of course, not real life). What if you were sometimes made of chocolate? Or marble? Or an almost invisible arrangement of pixels that had to move from one computer to the next?

What would it be like if your dog became something else, perhaps solid gold, or if you found a horse made out of fire?

Rocksy breaking her bike

Previous page

When Rocky turned to stone, she would become very heavy. While I was writing Rocksy, I wondered how could I show this in pictures. What if she broke her bicycle? Hey, wouldn’t it be funny to have her bicycle made of twigs? But how to draw it? I found a book called Making Twig Furniture, and from the diagrams for chairs and planters, I figured out how to do the twig bike.

What else could you make out of twigs, just for fun? Check out Rocksy’s twig bed, too.
